Moss

a private journal, no account

Can I keep a journal on my iPhone without an account?

Yes. Moss is a journal for iPhone with no account, no login and no sign-up. You open it and start writing. Your pages live on your iPhone and, if you want, in your own iCloud. There is no Moss server holding them, so not even we can read them.

Why no account matters

An account is a key someone else also holds. Once a journal asks for your email, your pages usually live on that company’s computers, under their password rules, their breaches and their changes of heart. For a list of groceries that is fine. For the things you only say to a diary, it is a lot to hand over.

Moss was made the other way round. There is nothing to sign up for, so there is no name, email or password of yours for us to keep, lose or look at.

Where your pages actually live

Everything you put in Moss, words, photos, video, stickers and voice notes, is kept in Moss’s own storage on your iPhone. If you are signed in to iCloud, Moss keeps your pages in step across your own iPhone, iPad and Mac through your own iCloud, which only your Apple Account can open. You can turn that off whenever you like.

There is no Moss server in the middle. We never receive your pages, so we can’t read them, sell them or hand them to anyone.

The one thing Moss sends us is an anonymous count of which features get used, like “a voice note was recorded”, never the voice itself. You can stop it in Settings. The privacy page lists every detail.

A lock that is yours, too

You can keep Moss behind Face ID or your own Moss code, and give any single journal its own code. Codes stay on that iPhone only; not even iCloud gets them.

What you get

A hand-drawn journal where a day can be words, photos, a short video, stickers and your voice on one page. A sky for how the day felt. “On this day” to bring back a page from a year ago. No streaks, so a quiet day is just a quiet day.

Moss is free, has no ads, and runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Moss is free on the App Store. No account, no login, no ads. iPhone, iPad and Mac.
